VANGUARD COMMUNITY GARDEN & LOS ANGELES RIVER

ENVIRONMENTAL GRAPHICS

Aside from assisting landscape architects with drafting and landscape design concepts during my internship at LA County Department of Public Works, I was also involved with two small projects; the Vanguard Community Garden and a couple of river walk projects in LA River. I primarily assisted landscape architects in creating educational and informative interpretive panels that informed about the plant selection of the project, habitat enhancements and other features that were implemented to improve a site.

Vanguard Community Garden

The Vanguard Community Garden Project is intended to offer space for community members to grow their own fruits and vegetables. Community members would be assigned a garden plot they could use throughout the year. Part of this project also included a jogging/walking trail that offers exercise opportunities for kids and adults as well as a quick glimpse at California native plants that are planted throughout the trail. The purpose of the signage was not only to offer guidance of the garden plots but also to educate the public about alternative plants they can grow at home to save water.
